It's been a decade since JetBlue brought its fresh take on air travel to the American skies. But while you might think of it as a budget carrier, and therefor incongruous with the kind of business, or first-class accommodations to which you've become accustomed, think again. JetBlue recently announced the launch of Mint, its new premium service that aims to provide a refreshing approach to upscale travel. Set to launch in June 2014 on flights between between New York (JFK) and California (either LA or San Francisco), the new Mint class aims to be more pampering, less stodgy and less expensive than the premium class accommodations offered by other domestic airlines.

For starters, JetBlue designed new seats for its Mint class, including full lie-flat beds that, at 6'8” by 22.2”, are longer and wider than any other domestic business class seats, with adjustable air cushions and a massage function. 15-inch flatscreen monitors display 100 channels of DirecTV and over 100 channels of satellite radio, along with dual 110-volt power outlets, two USB ports and shoe storage. There's even a “wake me for service” indicator light.

JetBlue partnered with New York restaurant Saxon + Parole to develop the onboard menu that's served tapas-style, a cappuccino machine designed specifically for the aircraft, and had Birchbox design the amenity kits. Regardless of ticket class, all passengers get access to onboard wireless internet as well.

Those looking for an extra degree of privacy and luxury can opt for one of four private suites, offering the only closing door on a US domestic flight. Best of all, pricing starts at just $499, making JetBlue Mint more accessible to travelers looking to upgrade to premium service.

"Mint is JetBlue's refreshing take on a premium class product. It is stylish service minus all of the stuffiness often associated with the traditional front-of-the-cabin experience. JetBlue is truly all about serving the under-served, the customer who wants to enjoy first-rate service at an exceptional and affordable fare," says JetBlue. "We believe Mint is better than other airlines' first and business class service, and with fares that make it accessible to everyone, we think Mint will become the obvious choice for customers flying across the country. This is the JetBlue way, and we look forward to welcoming you onboard."
